New energy resources based on nanotechnology: Hydrogen storage
Prof. Salim Çıracı (Bilkent Uni.) and Dr. Taner Yıldırım (NIST, USA) have shown that large quantities of hydrogen can be stored in carbon nanotubes decorated with transition metal atoms (such as Pt, Pd, Ti, V, etc.), raising the prospects of hydrogen as a developing energy source. Vortex lattice exhibits photonic band gap
Asst. Prof. Özgür Oktel (Bilkent Uni.) and Asst. Prof. Özgür Müstecaplıoğlu (Koc Uni., Bilkent Alumni) demonstrated that BEC with vortices can create a photonic band gap by enhancing the refractive index of the condensate via a quantum coherent scheme. This work was published in Physical Review Letters and highligted on the cover of the journal. [ full story ]
