Spring 2014 Homework Assignments
Rotate the spin state |z+> around the x-axis by π/2.
Problem 4.36 in the textbook.
Using the solution for the radial part of the Hydrogen wavefunction, find the expectation values for the kinetic and potential energies of the bound states.
Consider the solution to the three dimensional harmonic oscillator in rectangular coordinates. Calculate the shift in the energy of the first excited state due to a perturbation in the energy of the form H1 = α B0 Lz where α and B0 are constants.
In class, we found the expectation value of the quantity (e z) with respect to the Stark-perturbed states of the Hydrogen atom, displaying the z-component of the electric dipole moment. Find the expectation value of the vector quantity (e r), to determine the full dipole moment.
This Homework is "required" for students who did not come to class on May 8th, "extra credit" for others.
