Theoretical Study of Equilibrium Phase Transitions

A number of equilibrium classical spin systems will be investigated, and their phase diagrams obtained, identifying the ordered and disordered phases. The emphasis will be on learning the various methods of analysis, rather than the particular models. These methods can include mean field theory, Monte Carlo methods, renormalization group methodology, and possibly series expansions.

The work to be carried out in this project will include considerable amount of computer work, programming as well as analysis. Completion of and a good grade from the Phys 334 (Statistical Physics) course is a requirement. The student must discuss the project with me before applying for assignment.
