- National Instruments LabVIEW Download Page: Please download the evaluation version of LabVIEW. There will be several homeworks concerning LabVIEW. Although we have two computers ready for use in the lab, it would be better if you have a copy for yourself. Evaluation period is 30 days, which is more than enough for homeworks. There will be experiments, which will utilize LabVIEW in conjunction with some instruments. In that stage you will HAVE TO use LabVIEW copy of our lab, unless you have lock-in amplifier and a photodiode at home (which would be very cool).
- I recommend to install this evaluation version of LabVIEW when you REALLY decide to play with it. Because once you install, the clock starts ticking.
- At some point you have to register for a NI Zone Account to download.
- There are versions for Microsoft Windows and Apple MacOS. NI also ports a LabVIEW version for Linux but it is not available for evaluation.
- My version of LabVIEW is 8.5, NI changed its versioning system last year, official version available for download is 1x point something (it is labeled as 2011). I will obtain the same evaluation version. Also LabVIEW has an excellent backwards compatibility, so you probably won't have problems opening my files.
- NI LabVIEW Tutorial Page: This page contains useful beginner courses for LabVIEW. It starts from the very basic (How to start LabVIEW) and continues to a somewhat advanced topics (Software Development with LabVIEW). In the lecture, we will not use all of these concepts, but its a nice place to go over some details.
Instruments and Vendors
You have to find manuals for the following instruments by yourself. It's part of the course.
- Lock-in Amplifier: Stanford Research, SR830m DSP Lock-in Amplifier
- Function Generator: Stanford Research, DS345 Synthesized Function Generator
- LCR Meter: Hewlett Packard 4284A Precision LCR Meter 20Hz-1MHz
- Source Meter: Keithley 2400 Series SourceMeter
- None at this stage.
