Whose Theorem?

Why does the Divergence/Curl Theorem, also known as Lagrange-Gauss-Green-Ostrogradski-Kelvin-Stokes Theorem, have so many names attached to it?

1764 Joseph Loise Lagrange discovers the divergence theorem.
1813 Karl Friedrich Gauss rediscovers the divergence theorem.
1828 George Green rediscovers the divergence theorem.
1831 Mikhail Vasilievich Ostrogradski rediscovers the divergence theorem.
1845 William Thomson, later to become Sir Kelvin, discovers Green's work and makes it well-known.
1850 Thomson writes about the curl version of the theorem in a letter to George Gabriel Stokes.
1854 Stokes asks for a proof of the curl version of the theorem in Question 8 of Smith's Prize exam.
1873 One of the student who took the exam, James Clerk Maxwell, includes the curl version of the theorem in his book, A Treatise on Electricity and Magnetism , and attributes it to Stokes.
