"Some Asymptotics of Extremal Polynomials"

Abstract: We review some recent results concerning asymptotics of
orthogonal and Chebyshev polynomials on the real line. Asymptotics
for orthogonal polynomials can be classified as root asymptotics,
ratio asymptotics and Szeg\H{o} asymptotics. We consider
these asymptotics and emphasize the role of potential
theoretic notions in studying orthogonal polynomials. We discuss the relation
between the asymptotics of orthogonal and Chebyshev
polynomials. We present several open problems.
