Abstract: We will begin with definitions of the Hausdorff dimension and the Fourier dimension of a compact set in the Euclidean space. These dimensions do not agree in general. The existence of sets having the same dimensions was first shown by R. Salem(1950) and they are named after him. We will give Salem's construction and talk about related results obtained by R. Kaufman (1981), J.P.Kahane (1985) and C. Bluhm (1998).
