Abstract: We will discuss the fundamental groups,
braid monodromy, Zariski--van Kampen
theorem, and the relation between the braid monodromy,
dessins, and the j-invariant, implying that the monodromy
group is one of genus zero and imposing strong restrictions on the fundamental group.
Another application of this ideology is the concept of universal (for a given
fundamental group) trigonal curve.
