"Characteristics Bisets I"

Abstract: In this talk we shall introduce the key notion of characteristic biset of a fusion system. This mimicks an ambient group being acted on by a Sylow p-subgroup (reversing the perspective we have adopted so far), and turns out to contain the data of the fusion system itself. We shall parameterize these characteristic bisets by constructing an explicit basis for the free monoid they form.
