Abstract: The spectral theory of
orthogonal polynomials on the real line is comprehensive due to its two-sided
nature. In the first part of the talk, we consider both operator (direct spectral
approach) and measure (inverse spectral approach) theoretic aspects of the general
theory. In the second part, our focus
will be orthogonal polynomials associated with measures supported on Cantor
sets. We concentrate on the recent developments of
the theory and discuss possible extensions.
