"Mathematics of Disordered
Systems and Their Ground States"
By
Abstract:
Disorder in physical systems is naturally
modelled using randomness. I will introduce a class of simple probabilistic
models of disordered systems and study a basic question: what are their,
appropriately defined, lowest energy states? Surprisingly little is known and I
hope to interest you in the open questions in this field. I will asssume only
the most basic probability theory and no physics background.
