" The Szego Class "

Abstract: The
nineteen-year-old student G.Szego proved in 1915 the conjecture
of G.Polya about asymptotics
of the Toeplitz determinant. This initiated
analysis of spectral
measures from the Szego class. Orthogonal polynomials
with respect to such measures enjoy several nice asymptotics.
We review some results in this direction and discuss a possible form of the Szego
condition for singular continuous measures.
