The Early
Years II"
By

(BİLKENT UNIVERSITY)
Abstract: In the first part of this talk we discussed
the Spectral Theorem in both operator version and C*-algebra version as well as
the history of the subject until the beginning of the 20th Century. In this
second part,we will continue
the history until the middle of the 20th Century and then we will talk about
the two articles of Naimark that triggered the interest
in dilations, the two noncommutative generalizations
of B. Sz.-Nagy and W.F. Stinespring that actually
showed the depth and the power of this theory, a few applications, and the
relation between the linear and the nonlinear paths.
