"Codes over Ring
Extensions of the Binary Field and Applications to Extremal Binary Self-Dual Codes"
By
Abstract: Intended for a general
audience, I will start with an overview of the basic notions and concepts of
coding theory, its relation to different fields of mathematics and some of the
main research problems. I will then talk about the general properties of codes
over rings, focusing on a recently introduced family of ring extensions of the
binary field. The gray maps, the binary images are described with a focus on
self-dual codes. I will finish by stating some of the recent results
about extremal binary self-dual codes that we have
obtained by using codes over these rings.
