GENERAL SEMINAR

Gardens: The Fascination of Exactness in Figurative Art

by

CLAUDIO ARBIB

(Università dell’Aquila–Italy)

Abstract: Math is not for me, Im quite an artistic temper! Should an aspiring artist of the Fifteenth Century have said so, nobody would have taken him seriously. How much mathematics is in the fine arts we admire?  And, when there is some math in a piece of art, why on earth did the artist put it there? A digression on the place of man, of art and of exactness from ancient Greece to nowadays, via Flemish and Italian Renaissance.
