"Dirichlet's
Theorem on Arithmetic Progressions"
By
Senior Project Presentation
Abstract: In
this talk, we shall look at one of Dirichlet's contributions
to number theory. His result establishes the existence of infinitely many primes in a given
arithmetic progression. In his proof, he introduced what is now called Dirichlet characters and associated Dirichlet
L-functions which play a very significant role in modern number theory today.
