Abstract: Donovan's Conjecture suggests that, in a genuinely local theory of modular group representations, everything of interest would be determined by local information (P,X), where P is a p-group and, for fixed P, there should be only finitely many possibilities for X. Given a finite group G, we could just say: no thank you. Alperin's conjecture is seen as a possible step towards that aim. We shall discuss Alperin's conjecture and two refinements, none of which are genuinely local.
