Advanced Research Laboratories (ARL) of the Physics Department was built in 1992 and equipped with a grant from MoD. The lab houses 55 of Class 100 and 100m² of Class 10 000 environment with equipment suitable for most type of device processing. ARL is a multidisciplinary laboratory with researchers from different backgrounds and is open to all qualified researchers throughout the country.

The scientific focus of ARL is on the physics and technology of electronic and photonic materials and devices. Optical, structural and electrical properties of new materials down to submicron dimensions are are accompanied by design, fabrication and testing of various electronic and photonic devices. Photonic gap materials, metamaterials, chalcogenide semiconductors, compound quantum dots and group four nanocrystals are just a few examples of the materials under study using various techniques such as Raman scattering, photoluminescence spectroscopy, absorption spectroscopy to name a few. The lab is actively engaged in studies of photodetectors, lasers, NEMS, plasmonic and integrated optical devices.
